This convivial vocal workshop on the Youyou or Zagharit is an ululation, a cry of joy that can be heard in North Africa and the Middle East alike. First, we’ll meet over tea to share personal stories about the Youyou (whether part of your cultural heritage or not) and our relationship to the voice.

Then we will experiment with a range of vocal and listening practices and we’ll make our voices resonate together.

To finish, we’ll share a convivial meal to talk about the experience.

The workshop will be given by three members of the YouYou Group and Club Zaghareed: a group of women who explore their voice, bodies and their heritage in performances and sound workshops.
