État du monde is a journey which traverses worlds, both real and virtual, quenching our thirst for information and our vital need to understand the world.

Mistress of ceremony, Valérie Cordy taps away at the keyboard of her computer. Live: montages, collages, links, tweets, stories, and email correspondences burst forth. A video of a cat (the famous Lol Cats), an email to her Breton mother, a humorous tweet about new government measures to deal with the pandemic, a panoramic shot of a drone flying over a devastated city. Her browsing continues…
Valérie likes a Borain singer Alex Davant les Cimes with 10,000 views on Insta.
The screen fills with windows of earthly matters, each with their own view of us and our lives.
Alongside these figures and windows, other guests grace this improvised scene with their presence. A national poet, an anthropologist, a best-selling author, a science fiction writer, an investigative journalist, a popular singer, a steampunk vaporiste…

The topic of conversation, rising sea levels, the art of bridge building, the future of space research, kayaking during a pandemic, the disappearance of folk dances, how to prepare leftovers, the extreme right in francophone Belgium…

The guests are never the same, which renders each performance unique. Each iteration is independent, special, and questions the new narrative forms of current affairs brought about by the intrusion of digital technologies. Together they weave a tapestry of the contrasting colours and hues that compose our lives, material, digital, and imaginary.

Valérie Cordy
Valérie Cordy uses the metaphor of the asteroid to describe her digital performances. These performances explore new ways of writing and interpreting the world based on the stream of data from which we drink. Asteroids integrate this stream into their trajectory, their performance which can be seen when the asteroid becomes a meteorite, and at the moments of impact. A theatre graduate of INSAS and of the Paris Dauphine University in the Management of Cultural Institutions, director and performer Valérie Cordy has produced, written, and directed numerous plays since the creation of Henry Bauchau’s Diotime and Les Lions at the Rencontres d’été de la Chartreuse in the year 2000. Since 2001, she has been involved in an evolutive process touching on multimedia digital theatre of variable geometry with the MéTAmorphoZ collective. Recently, she conducted research into digital incorporation, both solo, and in collaboration with Wired Dreams and GPS. In 2013, Cordy took over as director of the Fabrique de Théâtre, developing a strong artist residency policy (40 companies hosted each year). Since 2017, she has been guiding the Fabrique de Théâtre towards the development of a network for reflection and practice around care and culture.
