What if we thought about food in a more collective, fairer and more environmentally friendly way? Come and discover initiatives that share a common goal of reinventing how we consume, produce and distribute food, each from a specific angle, in projects that emphasise the social and environmental aspects of food.

Today, food, regardless of how it is produced, distributed or consumed, is largely controlled by capitalist and individualistic actors and logic. While eating is a necessity, eating well remains a real challenge from the perspective of social justice, ecology and health. As a result, citizen movements, collectives and organisations are devising and implementing alternatives to make the agri-food chain more egalitarian and fairer. Around the table, members of the Mouvement Cuisines de Quartier, the Ferme du Chaudron and the CréaSSA group will share their practical experience and their involvement in taking concrete action from different angles: returning to collective everyday cooking to reduce costs and cooking time, among other things; creating a food sovereignty centre; and advocating for the establishment of a food security system.

Accessibility to sufficient, sustainable food is a major challenge for society, at the crossroads of social justice, public health and ecological transition. To meet this challenge, we need to give back its rightful place to home cooking, combining raw produce, know-how and pleasure! The ASBL Cuisines de Quartier supports and federates groups of people who decide to organise themselves collectively, with or without the help of a local association, to cook large quantities of everyday meals together for themselves and those around them. Starting or joining a neighbourhood kitchen group is of interest to a wide range of people: saving time, saving money, sharing know-how, cooking facilities and equipment, creating or strengthening links, etc. Thanks to a wide network of partners, the approach, which is aimed at everyone, manages to be taken up primarily by people facing food insecurity. Launched in Brussels at the end of 2019 and inspired by the Regroupement des Cuisines collectives du Québec (rccq.org), the Mouvement des Cuisines de Quartier brings together almost 30 member groups and around fifty partners in Brussels. The Movement is made up of Brussels residents from a wide range of culinary and cultural backgrounds, with diverse language skills and contrasting socio-economic situations. Everything that is put in place within the Mouvement des Cuisines de Quartier is reflected in the way it is implemented.
Clara Dinéty (Ferme du chaudron)
The Ferme du Chaudron is designed as a Maison de l'Alimentation, with a wide range of projects and objectives: supporting producers; promoting and giving access to local produce; popularising the concept of food sovereignty; cooking, entertaining and sharing, with the Gastrosophes group; hosting events; supporting 15-25 year-olds in their professional lives, and raising awareness among younger people via the ASBL Happy Farm, which offers activities for city children to keep in touch with nature and animals.
Jonathan Peuch (le Collectif de Création et d’Action pour une Sécurité Sociale de l’Alimentation (CréaSSA))
From an early age, Jonathan Peuch has been immersed in the world of agriculture, thanks in particular to his family's activism alongside José Bové in the Confédération paysanne, a major French farmers' union opposed to productivist agriculture and the agri-food industry. After studying political science at ULB, he pursued research into the right to housing and, in 2022, obtained a doctorate in legal science at UCL, working with Olivier De Schutter, former UN special rapporteur on the right to food. Jonathan Peuch has been in charge of advocacy at FIAN Belgium for the past three years. He actively supports the creation of social food security (SSA).
