3 Syrian refugees escape war from Syria and are seeking shelter in Germany. Will they be able to overcome their fears, or will the war linger inside of them? The performance on 23.09 will be followed by an on-stage discussion on multiple identities, migration and the violence that particularly affects migrant women, with Yasmina El Amin and Sarah Swaydan (AWSA-Be).

“Lordless Ladies” talks about how people become when they no longer have a God, when they are unseen or uncared for, when they have lost everything and are just trying to survive.
It talks about three Syrian refugees seeking asylum in Germany, with each one coming from a completely different background from the other. It takes us deep into their struggles, back to their past, and shows expectations of their future.

The play switches between the life in the refugee shelter, and the direct conversation of each refugee with the “detective” (the German interviewer who is trying to see whether to accept them into the country).

The audience will get to experience a hint of how it is to live in this shelter, and will get to know why it has become the way it is. This is a dramatic, funny, and emotional play that tackles a multitude of social issues and talks about the real-life experiences of millions of people, in hopes of being a small step towards a world where people feel with eachother more.

Yasmina El Amin
Yasmina El Amin is a senior student at Lebanese American University (Beirut), majoring in Political Science/International Affairs and Performing Arts. She found her passion in theatre after trying an acting class for the first time. For her, theatre tackles a multitude of issues that could be social, political, or philosophical in an artistic and entertaining manner. Although it is no easy thing to direct a play, there is no greater reward than watching the end result.
