‘Ataya’ means hot drink in Wolof. Ataya punctuates the days and the conversations, as one takes the time to prepare and enjoy it. Thierno Dia offers an introduction to the preparation of ataya and a discussion with his comrades from La Voix des Sans Papiers in Brussels, around the question of how to feed oneself in a situation of exile.
‘Ataya’ means hot drink in Wolof. Ataya punctuates the days and the conversations, as one takes the time to prepare and enjoy it. Thierno Dia offers an introduction to the preparation of ataya and a discussion with his comrades from La Voix des Sans Papiers in Brussels, around the question of how to feed oneself in a situation of exile.
During the activity, participants will be able to prepare the ataya, learning how to brew the tea, and taking the time needed for the three infusions. An informal discussion will be led by members of La Voix des Sans Papiers de Bruxelles, on food, exile and rights.
Thierno Dia
Thierno Dia has been a member of La Voix des Sans Papiers de Bruxelles since 2014. His activist background is amplified by his artistic skills. He is a member of the steering committee for the ‘Y en a marre’ and ‘Exil·s et création·s’ projects. He runs militant djembe workshops as part of the ‘Exil·s et création·s’ project. He draws with the baraka grafika collective, which has already published several comics and won the ‘hors cases’ prize in 2023.
