This mockumentary tells the story of a blackout that strikes the whole of Europe for several weeks. This gigantic blackout gives birth to a society that, 25 years later, has completely freed itself from fossil-fuel capitalism. The film is followed by a discussion with the director.

Through a combination of statistically improbable circumstances, simultaneous incidents at significant power stations leads to the collapse of the European electricity grid. A grid which is heavily connected to societal operations, and one that has already been weakened by fires which ravaged the south of the continent. Faced with such complex technological constraints, it would take weeks or perhaps even months to restart the power stations one by one.
Obviously, at first, that is not so evident. The same goes for the sparkling efforts of the public to manage the crisis, and the capacity of crisis to transform not just the people it touches, but also the cynical and destructive society that was tolerated until then…

Myriam reflects on and meets up with some of those with whom she experienced these historic events. Together, they recall their disarray on 22 July 2025: the fear, the abrupt disappearance of everyday reference points, but also the paradoxical and emancipating joy of collective and mutual aid. They recount how their lives changed radically overnight, and how they organised themselves to meet the most urgent and essential needs. They remember the violence born from rationing and requisition, the shadow of dictatorship, the anguish, the anger… And how their world was reborn from the ashes of ours.

The film is followed by a discussion with the director.

Romain Cassandre Versaevel
After studying at INSAS, Romain Cassandre Versaevel collaborated on the writing of Joachim Lafosse's film Les Intranquilles (Cannes Film Festival 2021) and Mehdi Pierret's short film Le mobilier. Étincelles, co-written with Marianne Espasa, is his first feature film. At the heart of his varied practice (cinema, TV series, theatre, running workshops) is a belief in the transformative power of stories and a desire to renew both the imaginary and the ways in which they are produced.
