The confrontation of two peoples on a distant planet, until their necessary understanding of each other. With drawings and dialogue by Roland Topor, this is a philosophico-pacifistic fable of rare visual beauty.

On the planet Ygam live giant androids called the Draags. They breed tiny human beings whom they call Oms. But one day, young Tiwa’s Om proves to be more intelligent than expected and triggers an uprising… Freely inspired by Stefan Wul’s Sci-fi novel, Oms en série, Fantastic Planet is one of the first animated films for adults.

This dreamy fable, which evokes a future in which technological progress gives rise to a sophisticated community that lacks empathy for other species, has left its mark on generations of viewers. Using the paper-cut technique, René Laloux and Roland Topor create a remarkably powerful surrealist universe, with cold colours and refined graphics that resonate with our own times.
